In 1994, the prosecutor Mark Macron suppressed evidence and coerced witnesses to convict Foster Thompson after three trials and two hung juries. To this day, Macron still obstructs the investigation to free Foster, with the tacit approval of current senior members of the District Attorney's Office in Staten Island.
Unlike other boroughs, the Staten Island District Attorney's Office has no Conviction Integrity Unit while other prosecutors across the City have made it a priority.
